A properly fitted biometric lock reads your finger in under a second, stores a template — not your print — and keeps a PIN and physical key as backup. We survey your door, match the right cylinder grade to your insurance, and enrol every user before we leave.

Strip back the marketing and a fingerprint door lock is three things: a small biometric sensor that reads your finger, a tiny processor that compares the scan to stored templates, and a motor or solenoid that rotates a standard cylinder. The cylinder is the part that matters for security — the reader is a convenience layer.
That distinction is why a £45 marketplace lock and a £250 Yale-badged unit can look identical but behave very differently in a break-in. Cheap units bolt onto sub-standard cylinders that snap in under 10 seconds with a mole grip. Properly specified units sit on top of a TS007 3-star or Sold Secure Diamond cylinder — the same core you would pay £200+ for in a standalone upgrade.
The reader itself has come a long way. Mid-range models now scan in under half a second, store your fingerprint as a hashed mathematical template (never the image itself), and use liveness detection to reject silicone moulds. But the sensor will always be the thing that fails first — moisture, dust, cuts, children rubbing sugary fingers on it. That is why every lock we fit has at least two other ways in: a PIN pad, a physical key, or both.
We fit biometric locks across SE, SW, CR, SM and BR postcodes — from Brixton flats to Coulsdon family homes to HMOs in Thornton Heath. We survey the door first, because half of the fingerprint locks on Amazon will not physically fit a UK uPVC multipoint door. The survey is free and there is no obligation.

Four steps happen inside the lock every time you touch the sensor — in under a second.
Sensor wakes on touch. A capacitive grid or optical camera maps 30+ unique ridge points on your finger in ~150 ms.
The capture is converted to a one-way mathematical template. No image is stored. It is compared only to the templates already on the lock — not the cloud.
Modern sensors also check for pulse, sub-dermal ridges or electrical signature — rejecting lifted prints, silicone copies and cold/dead fingers.
On match, a small DC motor rotates the cylinder cam the same 60° a key would. On failure, the log increments and after 5 tries the lock locks out for 30 sec.
The sensor technology decides how quickly the lock reads your finger, how accurate it is with wet or dry fingers, and how hard it is to spoof. Most locks sold online do not tell you which type they use. Here is the plain-English version.
A tiny camera takes a 2D photo of your fingertip under LED light and pattern-matches ridges.
A grid of micro-capacitors measures the electrical charge of each ridge touching the surface — used on most flagship phones.
High-frequency sound waves scan beneath the skin surface — reading sub-dermal ridges that cannot be lifted or photographed.
We cover survey, supply, fit, repair and programming. We also deal with the boring bits most installers avoid — pairing apps, registering with insurance, training kids on enrolment.
Measure cylinder, check multipoint gearbox, confirm insurance-grade upgrade path. Free, no obligation.
Yale, Ultion, Eufy, Schlage, Kwikset. Or fit a unit you have already bought (if it is compatible).
Keep your existing handle. Swap the cylinder for a fingerprint version with TS007 3★ core.
Primary + backup finger per user, labelled in the app. Trained on-site. Up to 100 users.
Dead reader, sticky buttons, drained battery packs, stripped Torx. Repair or replace same day.
Rotation-resistant PIN, master code, emergency mechanical key cut and tested.
Connect to Alexa, Google, Apple Home, SmartThings. Encryption check before we hand over.
Multi-unit rollouts, remote tenant revocation, BS3621-compliant cylinder pairing for insurance.
● B2B ratesWe have fitted these on every South London door type. If one of these sounds like you, a fingerprint lock is probably a fit. If none of them do, we will tell you to stick with a traditional key.
No more "lost my key", no keyring hanging off a school bag advertising the address. Kids scan in and a parent gets an app notification.
Arthritis makes keys hard. Fingers do not. Plus a carer / family member fob means no spare key hidden under a pot — the classic burglar target.
Tenant leaves? Delete their print in 10 seconds. No lock swap, no key cutting, no locksmith call-out bill between tenancies. Fire-escape compliant.
Guest-specific PIN expires on checkout. No more lockbox hunting, no keys in envelopes, and an audit log of exactly when each guest arrived.
Running for the train with coffee in hand, rucksack on shoulder. One finger and the door opens — no digging through bags in the rain.
Staff come and go. Fingerprint entry means no spare keys circulating, per-person audit trail, and instant access revocation when someone leaves.
We have fitted hundreds of these. The process is the same every time — we just adapt the cylinder measurements to your door. You get a written spec sheet on completion for your insurer, and a 12-month workmanship warranty on the fit.

We measure the existing Euro cylinder to the nearest millimetre (internal + external length, handedness, cam offset), check the multipoint gearbox, inspect the door thickness, and confirm the handle backplate footprint. Half the fingerprint locks sold online will not physically fit a UK multipoint uPVC door — we catch this before you spend money.
We write up the recommended model, the cylinder grade (TS007 3★ or Sold Secure Diamond), the cylinder size, and a fixed fitting fee. The price you see is the price you pay. If the quote is accepted, we order the parts and book the fit — usually same day for our van stock brands.
Retaining screw out, old cylinder withdrawn, handle plates removed. We inspect the mechanism while it is open — if the gearbox is on its way out we will flag it now, not after a callback. Non-destructive fit where possible — no drilling, no enlarged holes.
New fingerprint cylinder or handle fitted, retaining screw torqued to manufacturer spec. We test the lock 20 times on the bench and on the door — latch throw, bolt throw, multipoint engagement, key override. If any of those feel off, we adjust the gearbox keep before sign-off, not after.
Every resident gets two fingers enrolled (primary + backup), labelled in the app. Master PIN set, backup PIN set, mechanical key tested. We walk through revoking a user, adding a guest, and low-battery procedure. You get a printed spec sheet for your insurer.
Most London front doors fall into four categories. Each one changes the product you need. We measure yours before we quote.
Fingerprint locks often sit in van stock so we can do same-day fits for the most common models. For bespoke brands we order for next-day — either way we confirm the date before you pay for parts.

Fingerprint lock installs vary by brand, cylinder grade and door type. We do not publish an off-the-shelf number because that would be a guess. Here is the honest version.
Option 1
On-door compatibility check + written recommendation. No pressure, no obligation.
Option 2
Fit a unit you have bought — or one from our cylinder stock. Parts + labour in one bill.
Option 3
Non-standard door, heritage timber, multi-site landlord rollout, or premium brand (Ultion, Schlage, Mul-T-Lock bridge).
Payment: card or cash. No hidden fees: the quote is the price. After midnight: prices increase — call for a quote. The £250 fit-only figure assumes a compatible Euro cylinder on a standard uPVC door during working hours; timber, aluminium, composite and handle replacements are quoted individually.
A fingerprint lock that takes ten minutes to set up correctly will outperform a £500 unit that was never configured. These three habits close the real attack surface.
A single enrolled finger is a single point of failure — a paper cut, plaster or cold fingertip and you are locked out. Enrol the pad of your index finger plus the side of your thumb, and label them in the app so you know which to delete if a family member leaves.
Lockout riskEvery fingerprint lock ships with a default master PIN of "0000" or "123456". Change it on day one to a 6-digit number that is not your door number, postcode or DOB. Keep the master PIN off the household WhatsApp — it is the override that bypasses fingerprints.
Password hygieneMost fingerprint locks give you four weeks of low-battery warning — plenty of time, until a reader LED in a dark hallway gets ignored. Put a calendar reminder 12 months ahead to replace all four cells at once. Keep a spare pack next to the door — or the app QR code on the back of the hallway mirror.
Fail-safeThese are the manufacturers we stock and trust. Every one has a published firmware update policy, encryption at AES-128 or higher, and a UK-supported warranty.
Marketing, news headlines and TikTok have muddied the facts. Here is what we actually see on doors, not clickbait.
"Burglars can lift a print off a glass and 3D-print a key to get in."
Demonstrated in controlled lab conditions only. Requires a clean print, a lab, silicone glue and a matching sensor. In 15 years of UK burglary data we have not seen one attack that used this method — burglars smash glass.
"Your fingerprint is sent to the cloud and Big Tech has a copy."
On every mainstream brand, your print is converted to a hashed mathematical template on the lock itself. The original image is discarded instantly. The cloud never sees it — only the match result (yes / no).
"If the battery dies you're locked out on the street."
Every lock we fit has a mechanical key override, a jump-start terminal, or both. Battery goes flat → touch a 9V cell to the emergency contact → unlock. We test this on day one so you know what to do.
"Home insurance won't cover a claim if I fit a smart lock."
UK insurers check the underlying cylinder standard (TS007 3★ or BS3621), not the reader. Every fingerprint lock we fit pairs with an insurance-grade cylinder, and we give you the spec sheet for your policy.
"Fingerprint locks only last 2 years before the reader wears out."
Quality sensors are rated for 300,000+ reads — around 15 years of family use. The cheap £40 marketplace locks may fail at 18 months; the brands we fit have 2-year manufacturer + 12-month fit warranties layered on top.

Had a Eufy E330 sat in a box for six months because I'd read online it wouldn't fit my uPVC door. The guy came, measured the cylinder in under a minute, said yes it fits but I'd need a 40/45 not the 35/35 in the box. Ordered the right one, came back next morning, fitted it in about 90 minutes and enrolled all four of us. Small thing but — he sat with my mum until she could unlock it herself.

Landlord of three HMOs in Thornton Heath. Wanted fingerprint locks across all front doors so I could revoke tenants without re-keying every time. They specced ULTRALOQ Bolts paired with TS007 3-star cylinders for insurance. All three done in a day and a half. Invoice paid on 30-day terms no quibble. Saved me about £400 a year in re-key call-outs.

Bought a cheap fingerprint lock off Amazon, watched it fall off the door two weeks later because I didn't torque the retaining screw. Called these guys mortified. They came out same day, binned the dodgy unit, fitted a Yale Linus properly, and didn't charge me for the callout — just the fit. Honest, fast, no lecture.
