We fit TS007 3-star and Sold Secure Diamond Euro cylinders across every uPVC, composite and timber door in South London. Ultion, Avocet ABS, Yale Platinum on the van today — from £200, sized and fitted in under 30 minutes.
Lock snapping is the single biggest attack method on uPVC and composite doors in the UK. Two mole grips, one sharp twist, the cylinder breaks in half — and the cam pulls out through the gap. Five to ten seconds, start to finish.
The attack works because of a design flaw in standard Euro cylinders: they stick out a few millimetres from the door handle, exposing a grip point. Burglars lever them off, crack the cylinder in two along its weakest section, then reach inside and retract the cam. No glass broken, no alarm triggered, no trace until you come home to an empty living room. Police data shows Euro-cylinder lock snapping accounts for up to 25% of residential burglaries in some UK counties.
An anti-snap cylinder — TS007 3-star kitemarked or Sold Secure Diamond — fixes this with two engineered features. A sacrificial front section that snaps cleanly along a designed fault line when attacked, leaving the secured rear of the cylinder intact. And a set of hardened anti-drill, anti-pick, anti-bump internals that stop the other common attack routes.
We are Locksmith South London, a DBS-checked local team fitting TS007 3-star anti-snap upgrades across every CR, SE, SW, SM and BR postcode. Our vans carry the three cylinders that actually deserve their reputation: Brisant Ultion, Avocet ABS, and Yale Platinum Superior — all TS007 3-star, all Sold Secure Diamond where applicable, all in the common 30/30, 35/35, 40/40, 45/50 and offset sizes. Fitting is fixed at £200 whichever brand you pick.
This page covers the full picture: how the snap attack actually works, the anatomy of an anti-snap cylinder, the difference between TS007 3-star and Sold Secure Diamond, which brand suits which door, the six warning signs you need an upgrade today, and the honest fitted price. The snap attack is a mechanical failure exploit, not a skill-based attack. No lock picking tools. No training. Just a pair of mole grips or a Stilson wrench, and a cylinder that sticks out far enough to grip.
Here's the four-step sequence police forensic teams have documented on thousands of break-ins across the UK. Understanding it is the fastest way to see why a TS007 3-star cylinder is the upgrade that actually matters.
For the cylinder anatomy side of this same topic, see our anti-snap cylinder lock page. For the euro cylinder base mechanism, see euro cylinder lock.
Burglar closes mole grips around the cylinder stub sticking out past the handle. If the cylinder protrudes 5mm or more, this is trivial. Standard developer-fit cylinders nearly always stick out.
One sharp twist to the mole grips. The cylinder body is brass, which fractures along its thinnest cross-section — the section between the cam and the front. Audible snap, no visible damage from inside.
The broken front section pulls out of the door, exposing the cam that operates the multi-point gearbox. This is the moment an anti-snap cylinder stops the attack: the rear half stays locked.
Burglar reaches through the gap, rotates the exposed cam with a screwdriver, and the multi-point gearbox retracts. Door opens. Total time from arrival to inside the property: under 15 seconds.
Eight engineered features separate a real anti-snap cylinder from a regular one wearing a sticker. If the lock you're considering doesn't have all eight, it won't pass the kitemark test.
Engineered fault in the cylinder body just ahead of the cam. Snaps cleanly when attacked — the secured rear stays whole.
Steel insert inside the brass makes the front section resistant to plier grip and initial torque. Attacker needs more force to start the snap.
Hardened steel pins inside the cylinder shatter drill bits on contact. Standard cylinders drill out in 90 seconds — anti-drill pins make it a ten-minute attempt.
False notches in the pin tumblers defeat picking tools. The lock feels like it's about to turn — then doesn't.
Sprung secondary pins and offset rotation prevent the "bump key" attack where a shaped key is struck to bounce pins past the shear line.
Hardened screw fixing prevents the cam being unscrewed from the cylinder body through the gearbox housing — a secondary attack route.
Brass alloy heavier than standard, with internal steel lining. Resists deformation under sustained grip pressure.
TS007 kitemark with star count plus Sold Secure Diamond (where applicable) engraved on the cylinder face. This is how insurers verify.
Two tests. Two stamps. Same outcome — an insurer who has to accept the lock. Here's what they actually measure.
British Kitemark · BSI Tested
The British Standards Institute test for Euro cylinder attack resistance. Stars range from 1 to 3. 3-star means the cylinder resists snapping, drilling, picking and bumping for a defined test window with a defined tool list.
Independent Lab · MLA Validated
Sold Secure's rating system goes Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond. Diamond uses a heavier attack tool list than TS007 and is validated by the Master Locksmiths Association. Slightly harder to achieve; marginally higher real-world confidence.
Our working view: Both standards are insurance-grade. If the cylinder you're buying carries TS007 3-star AND Sold Secure Diamond (Brisant Ultion and Avocet ABS do), it has cleared both tests and there's nothing more to prove. If it carries only one, you're still insurance-compliant. Don't pay a premium for both unless you genuinely want the belt-and-braces assurance.
Every brand claims anti-snap. Three deliver it in a way that survives a real attack. Here's when to pick which.
Premium · From £200 fitted
The cylinder with “Lockdown Mode” — detects attack force and self-locks so even a correct key won't operate it until the attack stops. The top of the anti-snap market.
Locksmith's Favourite · From £200 fitted
ABS stands for Anti-Bump and Snap. Patented snap-secure design that breaks at a predetermined sacrificial point. Our most-fitted cylinder across South London — excellent value for the security spec.
Widely Stocked · From £200 fitted
Yale's top-end Euro cylinder. Platinum 3-star line covers the core anti-snap features plus Yale's strong distribution network means spare parts and keys are easy to source anywhere.
Any of these on your front door and you're exposed to the 10-second snap attack. Don't wait for an incident.
If the cylinder protrudes past the handle escutcheon by 5mm or more, it can be gripped with mole grips. Any exposed length is vulnerable.
Look at the cylinder face. No BSI kitemark or TS007 star rating means a standard 1-star cylinder. Fails insurance criteria; vulnerable to snapping.
Most uPVC and composite doors installed before 2015 shipped with a basic 1-star cylinder. Default developer fit — not an anti-snap upgrade.
Your insurer has started asking about cylinder specification. Some refuse to pay out on claims where the cylinder is not TS007 3-star or Sold Secure Diamond.
If a neighbour has been snap-attacked, the gang knows the street. Upgrade your cylinder before they come back for the same cylinder type on your door.
If multiple tenants, cleaners, builders or ex-partners have had keys over the years, the cylinder should be changed regardless. Upgrade to TS007 3-star at the same time.

Neighbour got snapped on the street three weeks ago. Called these guys, they came down within the hour, fitted a Brisant Ultion on the same day. Insurance certificate emailed before they left the driveway. Proper job.
Insurance renewal flagged our 2011 composite door didn't have TS007 3-star. Locksmith South London came, showed me the problem, fitted an Avocet ABS MK3 and handed me the certificate. Insurer accepted it within the hour.
Bought a Brisant Ultion online, tried to fit it myself, got the sizing wrong. These guys came out, re-measured, swapped it for the correct size Ultion, and didn't charge me for the wasted cylinder. Honest work.
